Doing hard things...

We have been learning how to do hard things at our house this week....

Like waking up at 5.45am to go to dive team (Abbie).....

And learning to dive from a few feet high diving board for the first time....and then having to turn around and do it backwards!! (Amelia).....

We have had a few tears...ok maybe a lot of tears on some mornings...and lots of wanting to quit, but we made it through the first full week and had their first ever dive meet on Saturday (which by the way was painfully sweltering hot for the parents...and apparently the lifeguard...who just had to sit and watch)

Amelia got 18th place in her 7-8yr old age group and Abbie got 6th place in her 11-17yr old age group (we were not expecting that one!!)

So proud of both girls for doing well, but more importantly for pushing through and doing hard things...

Last week when Amelia particularly was struggling and wanting to quit, Andrew told them a story....(in the way only Andrew can!), the one about a little chick inside it's shell who wanted to get out, but had to learn to peck it's way out on it's own...you know the story, but you haven't "seen" the story told by Andrew. I wish I had a video:)

Since then, when the girls have complained, I ask if they want Daddy to tell them the story again and with a resounding No, they roll their eyes and do the little 'peck their way out of the shell' motion....Now that is something they will remember forever:)
